Feeling Fulfilled: The Native State
9th Mar 2022
As a second addition to our Women's History Month feature, we chatted to Frankie from The Native State. This is a really inspiring piece which looks into the beauty of having a healthy work life balance. You can explore the Native State's motivational art prints here.
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
Recently it's been the promise of a beautiful sunrise. As a keen runner, the lighter mornings means I can get out the door earlier and more often than not, I'm rewarded with a spectacular sky. That and my daughter. She's 5 and my early morning alarm clock. Thankfully I'm an up-early, bed-early kind of person so it suits me fine.
What is your favourite thing about what you do?
I love the flexibility I have with my work. It gives me space to be creative and fulfilled through designing new collections to the daily on the job learning that comes with being a small business owner. Yet it also allows me to be there for my family, my friends...myself. My work gives me a balance that really works for me and I'm eternally grateful for it. I haven't had the Sunday night fear for a long time and that's a great feeling.
How do you celebrate your achievements as a female artist?
Sometimes it's a grand gesture and others just a pat on the back. I feel it's important to acknowledge all the big and small wins as they help me pinpoint the things that are working and motivate me to keep achieving more, whilst reassuring me that I can do this. The successes I've achieved are real and no one can take them away from me. When I'm a little old lady telling my grandkids about what I used to do for a job, I'll look back and feel really proud of myself. Explore The Native State.
