There are lots of things that can impact a space. Here are a few things to consider when you’re trying to create a relaxing area.

  • Colour - How do the colours in the space impact your mood?
  • Texture - Are textures soft in relaxing areas?
  • Light - Is the room light and energising or dark and cosy? Is the light natural?
  • Air - Is the room stuffy or does it have good airflow?
  • Temperature - Does the temperature in the space work for its main purpose?

Calming Colours and Why They Work

When creating a calming space, it’s not always necessary to avoid colour completely. Of course, off-whites, creams and browns are associated with peace and serenity, but muted tones of cool colours like blues, teals and sage greens can be great for adding calmness to a space whilst keeping it cosy.

A published study found that people who surround themselves with blue and green have lower levels of cortisol (the hormone linked to stress), while those who spend time in red and orange spaces had higher levels of cortisol. Whilst including these colours won’t necessarily always work, it’s definitely worth considering the importance of colour when you buy furniture or art prints to decorate your relaxing room.

Create Calming Spaces With Art Prints

Home decorating trends are constantly changing, but one trend that has remained popular for decades is the use of calming colours in art prints. These colours have been proven to have positive effects on our mood and can help us relax after a long day.

To make a space feel cosy there are a few decor recommendations that immediately come to mind. Empty walls can feel quite cold and can detract from the comfort of a room. Adding some interesting art that you enjoy will change the energy of a space. Similarly, if you aren’t able to paint a room to change the atmosphere, adding artwork provides you with opportunities to create more cosy and warm spaces without drastic home improvements. You also get the bonus of being able to choose artwork to really reflect your personality!

Nature Art Prints and Natural Imagery

Relaxation, serenity, and peace. When we consider a natural landscape or scenic image, these are the first things that come to mind. Depicting nature or natural elements is a great way to bring some of that tranquillity into your home. Nature art prints or those of natural colours or subjects offer a lot when it comes to creating calming and relaxing areas to unwind in

Idyllic beach scenes conjure up memories of smooth whooshing waves and sandy beaches – these sounds and sights conjure up memories of relaxing times.
