Lucy Merriman

Lucy Merriman

Lucy Merriman is an emerging contemporary artist based in Hackney. Her work is a response to the surrounding landscape through emotive colour and expressive brushstrokes, using a mixed media approach focusing on printmaking processes and painting. Colour is one of the driving principles along with themes of movement and energy, changing perceptions to our natural environment. Lucy works quickly with preliminary studies of painted sketches, monoprints and photography. The spontaneity of printmaking creates unexpected imperfections and texture, layers of acrylic paint are energetically applied to grounds. Using a blend of analogue and digital processes she plays with form and composition. Hand screen printed images merge with sweeping gestural marks in vibrant hues. Lucy graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a BA in Textile Design, establishing her first print design studio in Shoreditch 1992. In 2020, she shifted focus from design to artistic practice. Since 2021, Lucy has widely exhibited at group shows and art fairs including; The Affordable Art Fair Battersea and Hampstead, The Other Art Fair London and Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair. She is a selected member of ArtCan and a keyholder at East London Printmakers. Her work is held in private collections around the world.
