Who doesn’t want to live in a Wes Anderson movie?

As the new film 'Asteroid City' has released we have found ourselves daydreaming about living in a Moonrise Kingdom . The pastel colour palette, the voyeuristic symmetry and the nostalgic adventure. There is everything to love about this aesthetic, so what are the key elements of a ‘Wes Anderson’ aesthetic?

Symmetry

Wes Anderson may be more well known than maths when it comes to Symmetry. He creates intriguing and visually pleasing scenes using very simple iconography. Wes manages to continue this dream like feel through the set up of his work, it all feels too perfect to be natural. That being said, when looking for artwork try to keep the content muted with a clear focal point, we find that this tends to be most prevalent in photography

Pastel colours

Anderson favours a soft and pastel colour palette, with a particular affinity for muted shades of pink, blue, yellow, and green. These colours create a dreamlike and nostalgic atmosphere that is characteristic of his films. Think soft, clean and refreshing subjects, look for artwork that feels like a breath of fresh air.

Quirky subject matter

Wes Anderson films tend to make me feel as though I am parading around an obscure Italian town with a dreamy filter over my eyes. Another element to Anderson's films are his use of eccentric and idiosyncratic characters who often have distinct personalities and behaviours.

In regards to your interior design/artwork think quirky subjects as opposed to characters. Anything with intrigue and whimsy is ideal.

Vintage and retro elements

It’s easy to feel as though you have been transported back in time when watching Wes Anderson. He frequently incorporates vintage and retro elements into his films, evoking a sense of nostalgia and timelessness. These elements can be seen in the costumes, set design, and even the choice of music.
