Why Shop Independent This Christmas?

Why Shop Independent This Christmas?

Posted by Helen Edwards on 29th Nov 2014

I have over the last month actively tried to avoid picking up my usual favourite coffee from my usual favourite chain. I have found pleasure in seeking out those gorgeous independent coffee bars Shoreditch has come famous for.

I have adapted this philosophy to my eating habits using local food stalls and cafés to locate non chain versions of my favourite sandwich combo. And what fun it's been! I have met some wonderful, hard working business owners who are passionate about what they do and determined to make it through another year in business.

#Dhaba Lane, 87 Leonard St.

I have now started Christmas shopping with the same philosophy . I do, after all, run an independent online shop and why should I expect my customers to buy anything from my website if I am prepared to practise what I preach? So, last Sunday , I started to buy Christmas presents from Spitalfields market and local designer maker fairs to support the very people I support myself. If we don't actively support local small business and independent shops, our high streets are destined to become carbon copies of each other.

Shop wisely this Christmas and ensure your hard earned cash goes into the pockets of the smaller retailers who rely on this busy season to make the profits they need to pay staff and rent during a quieter first quarter.

A very merry Christmas to everyone and a big thank you for investing in us over the last four years.
