#MusicalMay Indie Prints Interview
Posted by Liam Howlett on 20th May 2015
To continue with our #MusicalMay campaign we turned to our fantastic retro music artist, Indie Prints with some questions about his artwork and musical habits.
Indie Prints’ (AKA David Lawson) work ranges from fantastic vintage looking gig posters to the classic bus roll series. We also released a bunch of his new work to the site earlier this week featuring groovy musical themes, inspired by some of the lyrics, sounds and rhythm of various songs.
Hey David, it's been some time, what's new?
At the moment I'm preparing some of my prints for a pop up art/souvenir store that will open for the Summer.
How has music inspired you work?
It inspires my work on a couple of levels, in terms of the visuals of popular culture, such as record sleeves, videos and fashions and also on more immediate level, whenever I listen to certain songs, I can't help reimagining them as an image, whether it be something in the lyrics, the sound or just the time and place that the music evokes.
What’s you favourite band?
Impossible to say really, but I guess the band whose records I've listened to the most over the years is The Go-Betweens.
What was the first live show that you went to?
The Pogues, in Kentish Town, 1988.
I think...
When we last spoke you said you wanted to design record sleeves, have you gotten any traction on that yet?
Not yet, I'm sure once the vinyl revival kicks in properly, I'll get that call!
