Wildlife art in your home, everything you need to know.

One of the best ways to choose art for your home is to focus on the things you care about the most. Whether you’re a passionate supporter of the environment and endangered species, or you find it inspiring or heart-warming to have wildlife images around you, putting your favourite creatures on your walls can help to bring your home to life and remind you on a daily basis of what’s important. If you’re looking at wildlife art in your home then these are some of the things to think about.

Start with your favourite animals

If you’re keen on big cats, for example, then you’ll find lots of great examples of wildlife art that features these most majestic of creatures. Did you know that a lion’s roar can be heard from eight kilometres away or that jaguars are actually great swimmers? Many of the big cats that we love the most are currently having their homes threatened by the actions of humans - wildlife art that features them is a great way to celebrate these beautiful animals without contributing to endangering them.

Or pick an environment that you find inspiring

For many of us, the forest is a peaceful, beautiful place and it’s also where you’ll find some of the world’s most intriguing wildlife species. Art that features animals such as orangutans, deer or bears in their natural home can bring a real sense of the beauty of a forest environment into your space and liven up even the darkest corners. Art that includes deer - especially the stag with its impressive antlers - can have a very traditional feel while bears are often mischievous and art that features these creatures can be humorous and fun.

Opt for landscapes that you’re keen to visit

For many people these are the environments that we are least likely to visit, such as the frozen landscapes of the Antarctic. Here, for example, you’ll find the wonderfully charismatic penguins, which make the perfect subject for wildlife art because they are so incredibly cute. Though it’s worth noting that there have actually been penguins that were human sized - an impressive 5 foot 10 - which may well have been a little more intimidating in the flesh. Other wild inhabitants of snowy landscapes that could bring a beautiful chill to your walls include seals and snow leopards.

Make a statement for those that can’t

You can also use your wall space as somewhere to highlight wildlife that is endangered and may not exist in our world for that much longer unless human habits change. Polar bears, for example, look stunning with their thick, white fur (which is actually transparent and reflecting back the environment around them) but whose numbers are currently shrinking due to loss of ice and food in their natural habitats. Koalas, elephants and pandas could also feature here.

Putting wildlife on your walls is a great way to create daily inspiration, as well as a talking point on conservation and the need for action where protecting animal species is concerned.
