Collections expert and artist extraordinaire - We caught up with our Range Manager to chat about our latest Mid-Century Modern collection and finding inspiration when it comes to styling wall art. Our stunning new range can be explored here!

Hi! We love the look you have styled for our Mid-Century Modern collection, can you tell us why you chose these prints?

Mid-century is a design movement inspired by the Bauhaus style, that began in the 1940’s spanning through to the late 1960’s. Today it is considered to be a timeless classic, with many people choosing second-hand furniture for their homes from this period. We wanted to create a capsule collection of mid-century designs with an East End Prints twist where everyone will find something to suit their retro space. The prints in the collection are centered around a classic mid-century colour palette that can be easily paired together over the sofa or mixed and matched to create a gallery wall.

What are the key points to consider when creating your own gallery wall? Are there any categories you love styling the most?

There are a few key points to consider when creating a classic gallery wall. One is size variety: you want to make sure you have frames in all different sizes that slot together to make the perfect collection. I personally love a mix and match of lots of different sizes and frame colours but if you want to go more minimal and sleek you could pick one frame colour. Another point to consider is colour combos: for a simple and easy look, pick 2 - 3 key colours and pick designs based on this theory. This way you know they will work well together on the wall. It’s also important to consider your furniture and wall colour when choosing designs. The final point to make a statement gallery wall is using a mix of print styles. Go for a few abstracts and mix bold typography, a beautiful botanical and a photography piece for an interesting and eye-catching statement! My taste is more eclectic and I love random pieces so I also think it’s great to be experimental and colour-clash if you want to go bold and be brave! I love styling bright bold colour combinations the best!

What colour palette have you chosen for your gallery wall and why?

For my gallery wall, I’ve chosen a retro, mid-century inspired colour palette. When looking at colour combos it’s always nice to mix in the warm and cool colours so you get a nice variety of tones. I’ve gone with some cool toned blues and warm toned reds mixed with a few touches of golden yellow and sage green.

Do you have any upcoming trends or styling tips you would like to share with our readers?

Try adding some riso prints to your collection! They are super bright and fun. We have some great ones coming in for Christmas this year so watch this space :)

Who is your favourite Mid-Century Modern artist and why?

I love how artist duo Fox and Velvet put their own twist on mid-century modern! Their work is really fun and playful. I love their use of retro colour palettes paired with bold black line work and cut-out style typography.

What are your top tips for creating your own art collection with a limited budget?

Start small and find some key pieces you love in the EEP collection and then mix in those statement pieces with some second-hand art. Go have a rummage at a car boot fair, explore second-hand markets, charity shops or indie art fairs to find unique pieces from local makers - you never know what you might find!
